George R.R. Martin has taken a moment to thank the supportive fans of his A Song Of Ice And Fire novels…

By now you’ve probably heard the news that George R.R. Martin’s next A Song Of Ice And Fire book – The Winds Of Winter – will take longer to reach us than Game Of Thrones season 6.

“Yes, there’s a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters,” Martin wrote on his blog. “But there’s also a lot still left to write. I am months away still… and that’s if the writing goes well.”

We’ll get the next season of the TV show before the next book, then (the show is expected to return in its usual April slot), meaning that scenes from the show are becoming ever more likely to spoil upcoming events in the books. Martin – understandably, given some of the online treatment he’s had in the past – seems to have expected a backlash.
